Some musicians spend a lifetime chasing a sound. Manny Cepeda was born into one. A proud descendant of the legendary Cepeda family — one of Puerto Rico's most storied musical dynasties — Manny didn't just inherit a passion for Latin music. He inherited a responsibility to carry it forward, and for over five decades, that's exactly what he's done.
From San Juan to the World Stage
Manny's career reads like a Latin music history book brought to life. His first professional performance came as a drummer and timbale player on Puerto Rico's beloved variety TV institution, Show de Vigoreaux, before he went on to perform alongside heavyweight names including Willie Colón and Richie Ray. These weren't mere gigs — they were masterclasses in the art of rhythm, groove, and showmanship at the highest level.
His journey took him even further as the leader of the renowned U.S. Navy Show Band, touring the entirety of South America, West Africa, the Caribbean, and Europe, performing for dignitaries and festival crowds across continents. Few musicians can claim that kind of global footprint, and fewer still carry those experiences back home and channel them into something as vibrant and focused as what Manny is creating today.
The Sound of a Living Legend
Now based in San Diego, California, Manny leads his own salsa band while continuing to compose and arrange Latin jazz for top musicians in San Diego, New York, and Puerto Rico. His 2017 Latin Grammy nomination confirmed what anyone who's caught him live already knows — this is an artist operating at an elite level.
On AirPlayRadio, you can hear that mastery in action. "La Cumbia de California" blends West Coast energy with deep-rooted cumbia tradition, while "El Abanico" showcases his sophisticated arranging sensibility — intricate, swinging, and impossible to sit still through. Both tracks carry the unmistakable weight of lived experience.
Manny Cepeda isn't a newcomer discovering his voice. He's a master finally reaching new ears. Hit play and find out what you've been missing.
