The energetic, 2:56 minute Seventeen is built on staccato vocals and fast guitars, with an upbeat, late '70s punk-inspired outro. Although the song sounds lively, the lyrics are moving it's about the dark theme of death. In the choruses colored by choirs, the band showed itself inspired by two pops from the late '80s. The Dark Wave is influenced by post-punk and goth bands from the 80s in particular, such as The Cure, Joy Division and Bauhaus. The group was founded in 2019 and includes former members of the Dutch indie bands Von Veh and Flemming. At the end of 2023, lead singer Jelmer Luimstra (April Afternoon, ex-Captain Felix) joined the group.

Text

This man at seventeen
He’s where he wants to be
He got up, now he’s gone
No poetry, no goodbyes
No need to emphasize
Just a void in the dawn
And yet we hear the news,
Some-one with different views
on society cried
The sound of what has been
went to the next station
for this town’ll spit you out
Some want to know why he was to decide
Closing the curtains for good was alright
What was the look in his eyes when he died
Faded to black on a dark winter night
His ashes in the air
to fertilize the soil
and the seeds, they will grow
No poetry, no goodbyes
No need to emphasize
He’s a void in the dawn
Some want to know why he was to decide
Closing the curtains for good was alright
What was the look in his eyes when he died
Faded to black on a dark winter night
I bet your mother never told you what you didn’t know
I bet your father never told you what you didn’t know
I bet your mother never told you what you didn’t know
(I bet ya, I bet ya)
I bet your father never told you what you didn’t know
(I bet ya, I bet ya)
I bet ya
